In Uncertainty Lies All Possibility
In uncertainty lies all possibility
It is winter and the roads are slick with invisible ice. My tires cannot grip. My car starts its sideward slide. I do what I can. I take my foot off the brake pedal. I steer into the skid. The car keeps sliding. There is a car parked on the side of the street. We are heading toward it. I watch and wait. We may collide. We may not. I have a feeling of helpless acceptance. There is nothing I can do to affect the outcome. It is not in my power to control. Then, a foot from impact, my tires catch and grab. My car lurches back into the center of my lane. O Destiny, bless her little inscrutable soul, you saved me again.
Uncertainty and detachment
In uncertainty and acceptance of the inevitable, a beautiful momentary experience envelopes us. I think it’s an aspect of wisdom, inner knowing. When we have no choice but to accept, a feeling of deep serenity, peacefulness comes over us. We’ve released our attachments to outcomes. We no longer need to “do” anything. We can sit back and simply “be,” and complete the ride. We then embrace all the possibilities that lie in uncertainty.
We are detached from the constructs of control, projecting, and planning. All the experiences that formed us, that made us who we are, no longer apply. There is nothing that we can use from our memories of the past, which can inform us as to how to act now, in the present. We are adrift as a singular craft, no oars, no rudder, no sail, no compass; carried by the capricious waves.
Wisdom of uncertainty
Deepak Chopra writes, “In detachment lies the wisdom of uncertainty . . . in the wisdom of uncertainty lies the freedom from our past, from the known, which is the prison of past conditioning. And in our willingness to step into the unknown, the field of all possibilities, we surrender ourselves to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the universe.”www.chopra.com/articles/the-law-of-detachment
That’s deeper than I wanted to go.
Wisdom of uncertainty part of PetMassage
What I wanted to share with you is that the surreal moment, the one in which your car is skidding out of control and, you watch yourself as an observer, as you resolve to accept whatever the Fates deliver, is actually a big part of PetMassageTM.
In each PetMassageTM, we experience the same exquisite feeling. Yes, in every session. We wait for the sense of observing movement from within the dog’s body; the moment when we have detached from the need to control and manipulate. We feel it and flow with it. We can feel the fascia beneath the coat resist, release, slide, and catch. It is the dog’s body realigning itself. It is the yin lurching out of the path of the oncoming yang.
PetMassage helps dogs and their people rediscover balance and love
The feeling of sharing internal choices is at a depth of intimacy that is indescribable. It is beautiful. It is humbling. It is always surreal; yet, as a means for assisting dogs toward balance, it is always very very real.
Once again, Jonathan, such a fulfilling blog. I don’t think anyone can do better than you. Poetic! Meaningful. Totally applicable! Merry Christmas from Merry Kay, love.
